What's Right Is Not Always Easy

A quiz for our blog visitors.  Some things to think about as we approach the holiday season:

1.  If you are walking in a city, and you are approached by a dirty, unshaven man asking you for money, do you ever give?
2. Now, substitute that man with a lonely woman wrapped in a ragged coat and holding a baby?  Now do you give?
3. What if you co-worker needs an extra quarter at the pop machine?  Are you giving?
4. When you see the news about Haiti, New Orleans, Asia, etc. where horrendous natural disasters have occurred, do you ever have any passion in you to just drop everything and go there and help out?
5. Have you ever worked at a local soup kitchen?  Other than during the holidays?
6. Are you joining us on Wed. Dec. 8 at 7 PM for the Meth Awareness Workshop?
7. Have you ever just randomly decided to donate to a cause, your time, talents or in-kind goods, unsolicited, on a odd mid-week day in the middle of a random month?  Not because it was the cause of the day or you had read about it in the newspaper  -  just because you knew it would help and you felt it in your heart.  Privately?
8. Do you smile at strangers you pass?  Or only if you recognize the person?
9. Have you ever disagreed with someone you respect because you just really, really felt strongly enough about the subject?  Was it your boss?
10.  Will you please join us on Wed. Dec 8 at the Center Lake Pavilion for a very good cause?
11. Have you ever felt like someone was using you for something, but you let them, because at that point in time in their life, you knew they needed something from you in a much worse way than you cared about being taken advantage of?
12.  Have you ever sat by a lit Christmas tree on Christmas Eve in your warm living room and thought about those out in the cold who's Christmas wish is just to survive? Ever acted on that?
13. As a parent, do you teach your kids humility, giving to others and helping out with their time and special talents?
14. Do you ever challenge our leaders - city, county, state, federal -  to do the right thing?  Or do you feel it's a lost cause because you're only one voice?  Do you know most of the great things that have happened in history began with one voice?
15.  Have you marked your calendar for Wed. evening, Dec 8, at 7 PM?  You can stop at the park and see the Christmas lights, then join us for coffee and hot chocolate .... and help save a community !
16. Have you ever felt so badly, or lonely ....mentally, physically,...... that you turned to alcohol, pills or some other vice to ease the pain?  Do you remember how that felt?
17.  Does the face in the mirror smile back at you......or stare at you with concern?  Or search for the younger you that used to sing "live and let live?"  Or glare at you? Or pity you?
18.  Do you CARE?  Not about American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, McDonald's Monopoly game, Starbucks, gas prices, your sore leg, your outfit, raking the leaves and the weather?  But do you CARE?  (Are you asking yourself right now, "about what?")
19.  Can you add a couple names to your Christmas list this year?  People you don't even know.
20. Can you stop Christmas shopping, office partying, baking cookies, wrapping gifts just long enough on Wed. Dec 8 to lend a hand to a very frightening problem in our county?
21. How many sidewalks have you shoveled.......that weren't your own?
22. How you ever sat silently while someone poured their heart out to you, serving as a supportive drain to their running water, and never asking for the same in return, or expecting it?
23. Have you ever just stopped and realized that there are much, much larger causes in this world than yourself, and that they many times come in forms that are poor, dirty, tiny, sickly, ugly, angry and even scary?
24. Are you going to answer "YES" to questions 6, 10, 15and 20 right now....and think about the others throughout the holidays AND BEYOND?
25.  Can you add a question here that we didn't think of?  Just click on COMMENT please.....
