You asked what you could do to help - HERE IT IS!

Sometimes doing the right thing, no matter how simple it seems, can get lost or clouded by the influence of others.  I'm sure everyone has experienced this in their life in some way.  There are many people right now who think that making sudafed-type products available by prescription only will significantly reduce or eradicate our meth problem in Indiana.

A proposed alternative to this is to track the sales of these over-the-counter products in the pharmacies to try to control it getting into the wrong hands - and into meth labs.  But the tracking method has been tried by other states -  it DOES NOT work.  In fact, in some states, the problem has GROWN because of this tracking system.

It would seem then that the right thing to do would be to pass a law in Indiana making the products available by prescription only.  And it could be done quite simply.  But then enter those "other influences."  The big pharmaceutical companies do not want a law like this passed because it will reduce their sales of these products and that means LESS MONEY for them.  A lot of these companies contribute to the political campaigns of our lawmakers.  This is where the simple act of doing "what's right" becomes clouded for these politicians.

Let's help clear things up for them!  Here's their problem:  they were not elected into office to make or not make laws based on who contributes to their campaign.  They are there to represent their constituents - the people in their communities.  So if the people -  YOU - contact them and tell them you "want to see PSE products scheduled - or made available by prescription only"  -  they WILL listen.  But the voices of the people must be MANY.  If you agree with this, CALL RIGHT NOW!  And tell everyone you know to call too.  You can find the contact info. for your legislative reps. on the http://www.killingacommunity.com/ website if you live in Kosciusko County.   Others may be found at http://www.in.gov/.

One very important call to make  (if you agree with this) is to State Senator Carlin Yoder, District 12, from Elkhart County.  Sen. Yoder is a big supporter of the tracking system.  He says he's still "on the fence" on the issue, so he needs to hear from MANY PEOPLE to let him know how they feel.  He may be called toll-free at 800-382-9467 (or 317-232-9984)  or you can email his legislative asst. Dana Carter at dcarter@iga.in.gov   Thank you for your involvement!
